Alvin Burnett

PRODUCER / DRUMS

Alvin Burnett, a dynamic and versatile drummer, has been immersed in music since childhood. Born in Vineland, NJ, he picked up the drums at just three years old. After moving to Buena, NJ, at five, he turned household pots and pans into a drum kit, developing a natural sense of rhythm. Growing up playing in church, Alvin sharpened his skills in an environment that demanded both precision and passion. He was heavily influenced by drummers Herman D. Woods and Eddie Leach, whose playing left a lasting impact on his musical development.

In high school, Alvin was a member of the rock band Altemidoras, performing alongside some of the most talented musicians in the Vineland area. He later joined Qrave, another side project that allowed him to expand his musical range. Around this time, Alvin first met bassist John Colvin while watching him play in church. John’s musicianship stood out immediately, and the two later found themselves performing together in Muzik, an R&B band they have been a part of for nearly a decade. Throughout his career, Alvin has also built a reputation as a top-tier freelance drummer, playing in wedding and corporate bands while constantly seeking fresh opportunities to collaborate across genres. His influences range from Carter Beauford and Calvin Rodgers to Dennis Chambers and George “Spanky” McCurdy, shaping his versatile and energetic playing style.

In 2017, Alvin was part of the house band for the National R&B Music Society’s Icon Award ceremony, where he performed behind legendary artists like Black Ivory, Allure, and Force MDs while honoring Gamble & Huff. That same year, he met Kyle Maack when auditioning for Kyle’s touring band ahead of what was to be a run of shows opening for The Temptations. The two quickly formed a strong musical connection, and in 2018, Alvin performed with Kyle on The Q with Quincy Harris on Fox 29, as well as at The Temptations’ album release party. Even as they moved on to separate projects, their friendship remained strong.

By the fall of 2023, Alvin was ready for something new. Tired of the same bar and wedding gigs, he proposed the idea of a Michael McDonald tribute band to Kyle, who immediately jumped on board. Together, they recruited some of the best musicians around, including longtime collaborator John Colvin, and spent the next year perfecting their sound. The result was Minute By Minute, a powerhouse tribute act that made its debut to resounding success, proving that Alvin’s vision and dedication to excellence continue to drive his musical journey forward.
