John Colvin
BASS GUITAR
John Colvin is a highly respected bass player from Vineland, NJ, whose deep, soulful grooves have left a lasting impact on both the local gospel and secular music scenes. A recent retiree from the Department of Corrections, John has devoted much of his life to music, honing his craft in churches and performing with some of gospel’s biggest names, including Yolanda Adams and Tamela Mann.
Beyond gospel, John has been a fixture in the greater Philadelphia music scene, lending his talents to several bands, including Variable Elements, Reference Point, Philly’s Best, and, most notably, The Muzik—where he has been a core member for nearly a decade. His long-running musical partnership with Alvin Burnett, drummer and producer of Minute by Minute, has created a rhythm section known for its deep chemistry and undeniable groove.
Alvin first saw John play in church while still in high school and was mesmerized by his skill long before they shared the stage. Years later, their collaboration in The Muzik made John the obvious first choice when Kyle Maack and Alvin conceived Minute by Minute.
One of the most crucial elements of a great rhythm section is the connection between the bass player and drummer—when they “lock in,” they create a foundation that drives the music forward. John and Alvin’s years of playing together have allowed them to develop that instinctive connection, making their groove feel effortless yet powerful. Their ability to anticipate each other’s moves and lock into the pocket adds a special energy to every performance, bringing Minute by Minute to life with a tight, dynamic rhythm section that keeps audiences engaged—solidifying John’s reputation as a musician whose presence elevates any project he’s a part of.
