Matt Cappy is a highly accomplished trumpeter, composer, and arranger from Berlin, NJ, who has spent over two decades performing, recording, and touring with some of the biggest names in music. A graduate of The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, he has built a career that spans multiple genres, from jazz and gospel to R&B and pop. His performances have taken him across the globe, from intimate jazz clubs to major music festivals, national television appearances, and legendary venues like the Hollywood Bowl and North Sea Jazz Festival.

As a sought-after session musician, Matt has recorded on numerous Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning albums, including Kirk Franklin’s The Fight of My Life, Fred Hammond’s Free to Worship, John Legend & The Roots’ Wake Up!, and Alejandro Sanz’s Sirope. His trumpet can also be heard on Michael Jackson’s “Butterflies” and Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Elevated”. In addition, he has contributed to nearly a dozen gold and platinum-certified albums, including Experience: Jill Scott 826+, a defining live recording in the Neo-Soul movement.

Matt’s touring résumé includes performances with legends like Jill Scott, Maxwell, The Roots, Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, and Jay-Z, with highlights at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, and Bonnaroo. A Yamaha Performing Artist and Ropeadope Records recording artist, he released his debut album, Church and State, in 2017. He has also dedicated over 25 years to music education, teaching privately and leading master classes. In 2024, Matt was invited to join the horn section for Minute by Minute after musical director Mike Ian and saxophonist Carl Cox recommended him to Kyle Maack and Alvin Burnett. His signature trumpet sound has brought new energy to the ensemble, further cementing his reputation as a dynamic and versatile musician.
